Intended Use

Determination of CK-MB is an important element in diagnosis
of myocardial ischemia, as in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) or
myocarditis. It is used for confirmation and monitoring  therapy after acute myocardial
infarction. In AMI, plasma CK-MB typically rises  4 to 6 hours after the onset of
chest pains, peaks within 12 to 24 hours, and returns to baseline levels
within 24 to 48 hours. The pattern of serial CK-MB determinations is more
informative than a single
determination.

Limitations

The diagnosis of myocardial infarction should not be based
solely on MB isoenzyme, but rather should be supported by clinical
findings, ECG, and other laboratory parameters. In patients with
disposition to macro-CK formation, implausibly high CK-MB values may be
measured in relation to total CK.

 Measuring range:
3.0 to 500 U/L.

If possible, avoid muscular
exercise.

Reasons for Rejection

Citrate plasma specimen; improper
labeling
