Routine urinalysis leakproof tube or container, BD urine
transport tube, or sterile urine cup.

Sample collection

 Collect urine in
a screw-cup plastic container or transfer it to a random urine transport
tube. Screw the lid on securely. Transport the specimen promptly to the
laboratory.

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature, refrigerate, or
freeze.

Random urine or 10 mL of well mixed urine from measured 24
hour collection.

Intended Use

Renal function test when used as part of creatinine
clearance; crude marker for completeness of 24-hour urine collections when
collected for other purposes

 

Limitations

Ingestion of meat may increase creatinine values of urine
collections as well as serum creatinine values. Drugs interfering with
tubular creatinine secretion: cimetidine, trimethoprim, and
probenecid.
