1 mL

Comments

LDL-C is the method currently recommended by the NCEP for
routine use.

Turn-Around-Time

One day

Intended Use

Cardiac risk marker in conjunction with other lipid
measurements.

Limitations

Affected by high tryglicerides result; abnormal liver
function affects lipid metabolism, making HDL & LDL results of limited
diagnostic value.  Many drugs
affect LDL-C. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) cannot be
calculated if triglyceride is <400 mg/dL.

Measuring range: 3.87-549 mg/dl.

Patient Preparation

Patient should be fasting for 12-14 hours prior to
collection.(Fasting is not important for cholesterol analysis but for
determining other lipids, eg triglycerides when testing lipids
profile).

Reasons for Rejection

Specimen with greatly elevated triglycerides (>400 mg/dL);
improper specimen labeling
