Comments

Results with findings will reflex to a Urine Microscopic
analysis.

Turn-Around-Time

One day.

Intended Use

The leucocytes excreted in urine are almost exclusively
granulocytes, whose esterase activity is detected in the test-strip
reaction. Leukocyturia is an importante guide symptom of inflammatory
diseases of the kidney and urinary tract,eg: bacterial infections
(glomerulonephritis, cystitis, urethritis or abacterial infections ( due
to yeasts, fungi, viruses), intoxications, urine-voiding
disturbances.

Limitations

Formaldehyde, imipinem, meropenem, clavulanic acid may cause
false-positive results. Bilirubin and nitrofurantoin may intensify the
color reaction. High protein or glucose excretion as well as gentamycin,
cephalexin, and boric acid may diminish the intensity of the
reaction.

Patient Preparation

A voided specimen is usually acceptable. If specimen is
likely to be contaminated, a clean catch midstream specimen is
desirable.

Reasons for Rejection

Improper labeling; tubes with boric acid or tartaric acid
(e.g. BD gray-top C&S tube);
Boricon, Bortiex, or Boricult yellow-top C&S tubes; specimen
not refrigerated or preserved; specimen more than 48 hours old when
unpreserved/refrigerated or more than 72 hours old for BD transport
tube.
