Intended Use

Part of the differential white blood cell count. The second
most common of the five types of WBCs normally seen in the blood. They
make antibodies and attack foreign objects, playing both an immediate and
delayed role in response to infection or inflammation. Increased numbers
of lymphocytes are seen in most viral infections, some bacterial
infections, some cancers, Graves’ disease. Decreased numbers of
lymphocytes are seen in steroid exposure, some cancers, immunodeficiency,
renal failure and Lupus

Limitations

Clotted sample; hemolysis; tube not filled to correct
volume.

Reasons for Rejection

Clotted sample, improper tube, incorrect volume, incorrect
labeling, dilution of blood with I.V. fluid, samples older than 24
hours.
