MPV is a sizing parameter, that may be abnormal in some
clinical situations (ITP). It can be used to make inferences about
platelet production in bone marrow.

Limitations

Clotted sample; hemolysis; tube not filled to correct volume.
Clumping may cause low platelets count.

needed.

Reasons for Rejection

Clotted sample, improper tube, incorrect volume, incorrect
labeling, dilution of blood with I.V. fluid, samples older than 24
hours.
