Routine urinalysis leakproof tube or container, BD urine
transport tube, or sterile urine cup.

 

Storage Instructions

Examination of urine with test strips must be performed
within 2 hours of collection.
Transport refrigerated up to 24 h. Protect from light. Do not add
preservatives.

Intended Use

Urinalysis helps detect abnormalities of urine; diagnose and
manage renal diseases, urinary tract infection, urinary tract neoplasms,
systemic diseases, and inflammatory or neoplastic diseases adjacent to the
urinary tract

 

Limitations

Insufficient volume may limit the extent of procedures
performed. Metabolites of Pyridium may interfere with the dipstick
reactions by producing color
interference.

 

Patient Preparation

A voided specimen is usually acceptable. If specimen is
likely to be contaminated, a clean catch midstream specimen is
desirable.

 

 

Reasons for Rejection

Improper labeling; tubes with boric acid or tartaric acid
(e.g. BD gray-top C&S tube);
Boricon, Bortiex, or Boricult yellow-top C&S tubes; specimen
not refrigerated or preserved; specimen more than 24 hours old when
unpreserved/refrigerated or more than 72 hours old for BD transport
tube
