Intended Use

Evaluate, diagnose and/or follow up bleeding disorders;
thrombocytopenia; disseminated intravascular coagulation; leukemia states;
chemotherapy management, evaluate platelet
transfusions.

 

Limitations

Clotted sample; hemolysis; tube not filled to correct volume.
Clumping may cause low count. EDTA-induced platelet clumping may cause
false low platelet count. RBC or WBC fragments (including fragmented
fragile leukemic cells) may cause falsely elevated counts. Drugs may
increase platelets count.

Patient Preparation

No patient preparation.

 

Reasons for Rejection

Clotted sample, improper tube, incorrect volume, incorrect
labeling, dilution of blood with I.V. fluid, samples older than 24
hours.
