Intended Use

Evaluation of renal diseases, including proteinuria, diabetes
mellitus, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), constrictive pericarditis
and amyloidosis, malignant hypertension, glomerulonephritis, Goodpasture
syndrome, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura,
collagen diseases, cryoglobulinemia, toxemia of pregnancy, drug
nephrotoxicity,  allergic reactions ; manage myeloma and
macroglobulinemia of Waldenstr?m (Bence Jones proteinuria). Also useful
for the  evaluation of hypoproteinemia and  tubular
proteinurias.

 

Limitations

Hemolysis
and certain drugs as Levodopa, Methyldopa and Cefoxitin interfere with the
test. In very rare cases of gammopathy (Waldestrom’s), may cause
irreliable results

Patient Preparation

Instruct the patient to void at 8 AM and discard the
specimen. Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at
the end of the 24-hour collection period (i.e. 8 AM the next
morning).

Reasons for Rejection

Grossly bloody specimen; incomplete collection; specimen
containing Pyridium; improper labeling
