Intended Use

Urobilinogen is formed by bacterial reduction from bilirubin
secreted into intestine with the bile. Urobilinogen in urine is used to
detect disturbances in liver function (chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, toxic
liver damage, liver hypoxia, liver tumors), hemolytic diseases  with increased degradation of
haemoglobin.

Limitations

Protect from light. Nitrite and formaldehyde in high
concentrations may interfere.

 

Patient Preparation

A voided specimen is usually acceptable. If specimen is
likely to be contaminated, a clean catch midstream specimen is
desirable.

Reasons for Rejection

Specimen not protected from light; specimen collected more
than 2h before or not refrigerated.
